«Artistas en la Colección de Arte Banco Sabadell» (Cuenca)

Women artists form a prominent part of the Banco Sabadell Art Collection and play an increasingly significant role in the Spanish and international art world, across all disciplines and artistic practices. The works by these artists have been selected for their artistic quality and for the significance of their contribution to contemporary Spanish art. Together, they form a diverse group of works by three generations of artists, ranging from Carmen Laffón to Teresa Solar Abboud.
The exhibition presents a variety of approaches and ideas, as well as different materials and techniques. Nevertheless, viewed as a whole, it reveals the continuity of women's presence in high-level artistic creation over more than half a century. It also highlights a diversity of concepts and artistic languages, in keeping with a context increasingly characterised by undisciplined, interdisciplinary and, more generally, complex practices.
Sculpture predominates in the exhibition, but it also includes drawing, painting, photography and installation. One recurring theme in many of the works is memory: time, repetition, dreams, childhood, presence and absence; as well as personal and collective memory, and social and political memory. Also present are the body, whether individual or social; ideas of pressure and transformation; sex; pain and pleasure; sensitivity; and harshness. The lived landscape and the real landscape are also explored, alongside reflections on artistic language itself and on the history of art.
Artistas is an exhibition conceived with the aim of highlighting the importance of women's contribution to contemporary art and, in a modest way, drawing attention to the ongoing challenge of gender equality throughout the world.
The exhibition features such prominent artists as Carmen Laffón, Esther Ferrer, Elena Asins, Soledad Sevilla, Rosa Amorós, Dominica Sánchez, Ana Jotta, Susana Solano, Isabel Muñoz, Montserrat Soto, Ana Laura Aláez, Susy Gómez, Mayte Vieta, Ángela de la Cruz, Alicia Framis, Cristina de Middel, Itziar Barrio and Teresa Solar Abboud.
