Collaboration in Cristina Iglesias’ Hondalea project

The Banco Sabadell Art Collection has collaborated with Cristina Iglesias in her artistic project ‘Hondalea’, which the artist is exhibiting in the Lighthouse on the isle of Santa Clara, San Sebastian.

Hondalea, which in the Basque language means depths of the sea or seabed, is the title chosen by the sculptress, a native of San Sebastian, for this project, which she considers to be the most important work of her career.

Inspired by her abiding interest in all things related to geology, Cristina Iglesias has emptied the old Lighthouse, uninhabited since 1968, and has built an intricate 15-tonne bronze vessel, a structure that recreates the stratification of the seabed and the crashing of waves against the rocks.
