Irma Álvarez-Laviada’s work Hacia un solo color (Towards a single colour) forms part of the exhibition ‘Irma Álvarez-Laviada. Dentro y fuera del marco‘ (Irma Álvarez-Laviada. Inside and Outside the Frame), organised by the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid. The exhibition is open to visitors from 24 February to 3 May 2026.
Álvarez-Laviada’s creations exist in-between, both in and out of the frame, crafted from industrial materials intended for practical applications. The artist thus reflects on inclusion and exclusion in the modern tradition of Western art: between what is considered pure and what is deemed decorative, and between aesthetic experience and the economic and ideological interests that shape the arts.
