Three works from the installation La sonrisa innumerable de las olas del mar (The innumerable smile of the sea waves) by Mayte Vieta, belonging to the Banco Sabadell Art Collection, form part of the exhibition “Mayte Vieta. The Sound of the Sea”, organised by the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea from 20 September 2024 to 19 January 2025.

With her pieces, Vieta creates dream-like atmospheres where gravity and weightlessness coexist in a parallel reality and where the boundaries between tranquillity and tragedy are blurred and evoke moods which, in their ambiguous intensity, blend these opposites.

Her landscapes, composed of non-places of silence and stillness, speak to us of the suspension of the present and immersion in a new gravitational universe, where time slows down, moments are drawn out and the subject becomes Nature.
