Contemporary photography has occupied a prominent place in the Banco Sabadell Collection from the outset. With major artists such as Chema Madoz, Joan Fontcuberta, Isabel Muñoz and Eulalia Valldosera, among others, it is undoubtedly one of the most significant photography collections in Spain.
The selection of works brought together in Allegories of Everyday Life offers welcoming and familiar spaces in which viewers engage with the different places, stories and situations created by the artists. A journey from conceptual approaches to object-based practices, the exhibition constructs a poetic universe in which the photographic image creates a sense of distance from, and dissolution of, everyday spaces and objects.
In their allegorical function, the images presented embody an alternative, divergent way of making art, rooted in process and applicable to the unfolding of ordinary experience. In this way, the magic of everyday life and its narrative dynamics are transformed and come to operate symbolically within the construction of the image.
