Women artists form a prominent part of the Banco Sabadell Art Collection and occupy an increasingly relevant place in the Spanish and international artistic world, in all disciplines and in all languages.
The works of these creators have been selected for their artistic quality and for the importance of the authors in the art as a whole
Contemporary Spanish. They form a heterogeneous set of works from three generations of artists, from Carmen Laffón to Teresa Solar Abboud.
In the exhibition different attitudes and ideas are appreciated, and also different materials and techniques. However, the view as a whole makes it possible to verify the continuity of the presence of women in the creation of a high level throughout more than half a century.
The diversity of concepts and languages is also observed, in consequence of a context increasingly characterized by undisciplined, interdisciplinary practices and, in general, greater complexity.
In the exhibition sculpture predominates, but also the drawing, painting, photography and installations. To highlight some themes, memory is recurrent in many of the works: time, repetition, dreams, childhood, presence and absences; also personal and collective memory, social and political. They are also present, the body –the body itself or the social body–, the ideas of pressure and transformation, sex, pain and pleasure, sensitivity, hardness... The lived and the real landscape, the reflection on the language itself and on the history of art.
Artists is an exhibition conceived with the intention of showing the importance of the creation of women in art
Contemporary and, in a modest way, make visible the pendiente challenge of gender equality in the world.
