Photographer Jordi Bernadó selected 14 internationally recognised figures to reflect on identity through portraiture. They are leading voices in human rights, feminism, ecology, science, the arts and the pursuit of a better future.
Each of them was asked to choose where they wished to be photographed. It could not be just any place, but rather their place in the world. That was one of the conditions. The other was that they would stand with their backs to the camera. Their faces could not be seen. The place they chose defines them. The landscape is the only clue the viewer has about the person portrayed.
ID project explores the essence of human identity, that which supposedly makes us unique.
We all have a place in the world, a place we love, a place we miss, a place to which we return.
