The exhibition *Order and Disorder of the World* brings together for the first time two of the city’s most notable art collections: one, that of the Sabadell Art Museum, consisting mainly of works by local artists; and the other, the Banco Sabadell Art Collection, which includes not only the work of prominent artists born in Sabadell but also that of national and international artists.
The exhibition *Order and Disorder of the World* presents an extensive selection of modern and contemporary artworks from the Banco Sabadell Art Collection and the Sabadell Art Museum’s collection, highlighting how art has engaged with the human desire to understand, interpret, and define sensory reality, and how, at the same time, it has also sought to question, subvert, transcend, and reinvent the principles of organization and systematization through which, across various academic disciplines, attempts have been made to generate knowledge about the world and existence.
Modern art marked a break with traditional Western perspectives and offered a transformative vision of reality—including its most internal and invisible manifestations—thereby expanding the scope of what can be represented. Contemporary art has integrated and extended this disruptive impulse—the imperative to disrupt and destabilize the stable, functional categories through which hegemonic forces so often attempt to define the world and existence.
The exhibition draws us into these dynamics and invites us to examine how artists have, through their practice, engaged with essential concepts and ideas of human knowledge and experience—such as nothingness, matter, origin, existence, nature, landscape, creation, and destruction.
The selection of works also emphasizes the nature of the connection that art establishes with reality and prompts reflections on the meaning and value of representation, imagination, and creation. It also explores the relationship between artistic creativity and erotic desire, understood as a creative force that destabilizes and disrupts the established order.
