The DKV Collection and the Banco Sabadell Collection have joined forces to present a selection of their contemporary artworks chosen through the combination of two disciplines: sculpture and drawing.
While sculpture has long been a solid, precise artistic language—where structure and material largely determined the final result of the work and thus required specialized technique from the artist—drawing was the exact opposite: it was praised for the freshness and fluidity of the line, qualities one could not afford in a larger-scale work.
But the situation has changed, and we now find ourselves facing a new reality: we could say that today one sculpts (if this term is still appropriate) as one draws, and draws as one sculpts. Sculpture is now defined solely by its three-dimensionality and its relationship to space, offering—beyond this basic definition—a multitude of solutions, both formal and conceptual. And drawing, formerly relegated to the background, now functions as an autonomous art form with a new range of possibilities that is broader and freer than, for example, what we find in painting, which is more limited and carries a heavier historical weight.
This exhibition is a clear example of how the boundaries between these disciplines are disappearing and how the two are converging in terms of their artistic value and representativeness.
