Butaques al delta de l’Ebre, by Perejaume, and Flors, by Ramiro Fernández Saus, form part of the exhibition “Persistències efímeres. Una postmodernitat barroca?” [“Fleeting persistence. Is this baroque postmodernism?”] curated by Ricard Mas Peinado and organised by the Museum of the Baroque of Catalonia in Manresa (Barcelona), from 16 September to 6 December.

The exhibition poses an underlying question: to what extent has the baroque spirit of Catalonia, forged between the 17th and 18th centuries, continued to express itself, in a transfigured form, in Catalan culture of recent times; in this case, between the 1970s and the year 2000?

“Fleeting persistence. Is this baroque postmodernism?” invites us to take a fresh look at Catalan art produced in recent years, encouraging us to seek out references and traces of a period which, far from being locked away in the past, remains a vibrant, complex and highly relevant influence on our contemporary cultural expressions.
