The Art Collection is holding an exhibition, from 11 February to 11 May 2025, entitled “Tocar lejanías. Banco Sabadell Art Collection”, curated by artist Mar Arza, which will be open to visitors at the SabadellHerrero exhibition hall in Oviedo.
Mar Arza has been exploring the artworks on paper held in the Banco Sabadell Art Collection. This exhibition is the product of that investigation, where one verse poems, in an apparent contradiction, bring us closer to unravelling the mystery of creation. This wide selection of artworks on paper invites us not only to “tocar lejanías” (roughly meaning to ‘brush against what lies beyond our reach’) but also to have the courage to grasp it in a fleeting instant of lucidity.
“Paper has always been and continues to be an unmatched material when it comes to the format and substance of artworks. Its tactile quality attracts one’s eye to the surface of a porous coating that breathes and injects life into the texture of its fibres and of all that is added to them. But at the same time, one could say that it transcends its material limits to cast a projection, an illusion, or a premonition. In other words, what is often thought to be intangible and unreachable is actually nestled inside these tangible items. The paper medium is a screen that filters and captures the distance – the watermark – of the journey made. And so, on paper, we see how the closeness of what we can touch and the remoteness of what we can see beyond its surface come together.”
